The Seventh Scandinavian Congress of Jewish Studies
The Seventh Scandinavian Congress of Jewish Studies had been working science 14th till 16th of May in a picturesque resort Jarvenpaa (Finland). The Scandinavian Society for Jewish Studies and University of Helsinki organized this scientific forum. Scholars from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Israel, Poland, Germany, England, France, Estonia, Georgia, and Russia took part in the Congress.
Two scholars from "Petersburg Judaica" presented their repots at the Congress. These were Valety Dimshits with his presentation entitled "Biblical Characters as Depicted in the Folk Art of the Jews of Eastern Europe (Jewish Lubok and Jewish Folk Theater" and Alla Sokolova with her repot "The Architectural Face of a Shtetl within the Context of Traditional Ashkenazi Culture".
The negotiations concerning future joint activities between Prof. Hanne Trautner-Kromann, the president of the Scandinavian Society for Jewish Studies (Sweden), Prof. Tapani Harviainen (Finland) and Valery Dimshits, director of "Petersburg Judaica", took place at the Congress. During the negotiations there was discussed a possibility of fulfillment of joint research and exhibition projects. There was decided to organize a joint scientific conference on the Jewish studies in St. Petersburg in 2001.
